Mission Statement

The Cuban American National Foundation (CANF) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to a free and democratic Cuba.  Pursuit of the Foundation’s mission is guided by three underlying principles:

  • Change should be both non-violent and meaningful, reflecting the natural will and inalienable rights of the Cuban people
  • Change must come from within the island, not forcibly imposed from abroad
  • Advocating change is the responsibility of all Cubans (those on the island and in exile), governments and organizations who share the goal of a free and democratic Cuba

 Current Strategy

In pursuit of its mission, CANF focuses on supporting, empowering, and expanding the dissident movement and independent civil society inside Cuba.  The individuals who contribute to the on-island successes of this movement have repeatedly demonstrated remarkable courage and resolve in the face of intense repression. CANF supports these brave agents of change by:

  • Providing them with the guidance, materials, and financial resources needed to further their non-violent struggle for freedom and human rights, within the limits prescribed by U.S. law.
  • Promoting and defending the dissident voice on the world-stage, ensuring that it is heard and recognized, thus providing a level of international protection to Cuban dissidents.
  • Working to counteract the Castro regime’s propaganda machine, diligently collecting and disseminating facts to dispel the myths of revolutionary triumphs and to shed light on the truth of the Cuban condition.
