Global supporters distributed informational brochures, translated in 8 languages, throughout their cities, and messages of support were videotaped and sent to the campaign activists in Cuba. In Miami, brochures were distributed in the popular restaurant Versailles at 1:30 pm, and there was a promotional event in the restaurant Sports Grill, located at 10005 Sunset Drive, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
As part of this international day, the mayors of Miami-Dade County, Carlos Alvarez; city of Hialeah Gardens, Yusiet de la Cruz, city of Miami, Manny Díaz and city of Doral, Juan Carlos Bermúdez, issued official proclamations recognizing May 26th as the World Day of Support to Con la Misma Moneda Campaign
The activists of this campaign have managed to deliver more than 20,000 signatures to the National Assembly, demanding the acceptance of the national currency in all the country's establishments. Scores of activists have carried out more than 20 protests in restaurants and cafés in different provinces, consuming meals and refusing to pay in the required convertible pesos (CUC), offering instead only payment in the national currency. In the city of San German in the province of Holguin, these actions forced the managers of a state-run establishment to order their employees to accept, without exceptions, the national currency.
"This movement of international solidarity represents an extraordinary motivation for those who risk their lives to eliminate the status of second class citizen that has been assigned to Cubans in their own country", declared Magdelivia Hidalgo, International Representative of FLAMUR, in Miami. "Our gratitude goes out to all those who participated throughout the world on this Day," added Belinda Salas Tápanes, President of FLAMUR in Havana, Cuba.
