Today, the Cuban American National Foundation (CANF) praised the Obama
Administration’s naming of Joe Garcia to the post of Director of the Office of
Minority Economic Impact for the U.S. Department of Energy. Joe Garcia’s
experience in the energy sector is extensive having served as a member of the
Florida Public Service Commission beginning in 1994. Just five years later Garcia
was named Chairman of the Commission becoming Florida’s highest ranking
Hispanic official.

For the past two decades, Joe Garcia has also dedicated himself to the cause of
Cuban freedom serving in the 1990’s as the Director of CANF’s Cuban Relief
Exodus Program which helped to reunite over 10,000 Cuban refugees stranded in
third countries with their relatives here in the United States and later as CANF’s
Executive Director from 2000 to 2004.

“Joe brings with him the kind of unique background in policy and community
outreach that make him a natural choice for this post. Having worked with Joe
throughout the past two decades, we have always been impressed with his
incredible work ethic, talent and dedication and it is why we have no doubt that he
will be an incredible asset to the Department of Energy and to President Obama in
moving forward an energy policy that addresses today’s unique challenges,” said
Jorge Mas Santos, Chairman of the Cuban American National Foundation.
